Recycling ABC

ISO 45001

ISO 45001 is the international standard for occupational health and safety management systems. It sets out how an organisation should identify workplace hazards, assess and control risks, and prevent work-related injury and ill health.

Certification is granted by an independent body after an audit and is maintained through regular surveillance audits. Health and safety is a central issue in recycling: workers handle heavy bales, moving machinery, hot extrusion lines and waste of unknown origin. ISO 45001 requires documented procedures, training, protective equipment, incident reporting and worker participation. It complements social-audit programmes such as SEDEX. Lucro is certified to ISO 45001, together with ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 14001 for environmental management.
