Agglomeration is a step in plastic recycling that turns light, fluffy film scrap into small, dense crumbs. Washed and shredded film is heated by friction in an agglomerator until it softens and shrinks, then cooled quickly so that it breaks into free-flowing granulate.
Film flakes on their own are too light to feed evenly into an extruder. Agglomerating them raises bulk density, removes residual moisture and gives a steady feed for extrusion and pelletizing. The process is widely used for LDPE and LLDPE film, the main feedstock for rLDPE granules.
