Blow moulding is a manufacturing process that makes hollow plastic parts such as bottles, jerry cans and drums. A tube of molten plastic, called a parison, is clamped inside a mould and inflated with air until it takes the shape of the cavity.
HDPE is the most common blow-moulding material, so rHDPE blow-moulding grades are one of the main outlets for recycled rigid packaging, for example lubricant, home-care and personal-care bottles. A recycled grade for blow moulding needs a low, stable melt flow index for good melt strength, consistent colour and low odour. Converters check these values on the grade’s technical data sheet.
