Reverse Logistics

Reverse logistics is the movement of goods backwards through the supply chain: from the customer or point of use back to a manufacturer, reprocessor or recycler. In waste management, it describes the systems that bring used packaging and products back for reuse or recycling.

Examples are take-back of packaging from retail stores, collection of shrink and stretch film from warehouses and distribution centres, and return of transit packaging on the same trucks that deliver goods. Because the waste is collected at the point where it arises, it is cleaner and better sorted than mixed household waste, and its origin is documented, which supports traceability and EPR reporting. Lucro collects part of its post-consumer feedstock through reverse-logistics tie-ups with retail outlets, alongside its collection centres and municipal partnerships.
