EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility)

EPR, or Extended Producer Responsibility, is a policy that makes the companies that put packaging on the market responsible for what happens to it after use. In India it applies to producers, importers and brand owners, together called PIBOs, under the Plastic Waste Management Rules.

Each PIBO registers on the CPCB portal and must meet annual targets for recycling the plastic packaging it introduces, with additional obligations for reuse and for the use of recycled content. Obligations are met by working with registered recyclers and buying EPR certificates, often called plastic credits. Lucro supports brands with EPR compliance through its collection and recycling operations and the documentation that goes with them.
