Plastic Credits

A plastic credit is a transferable unit representing a defined quantity of plastic waste, usually one tonne or one kilogram, that has been collected and recycled or otherwise processed. A company buys credits to take responsibility for an equivalent amount of the plastic it puts on the market.

In India, the term usually means the EPR certificates generated by registered recyclers on the CPCB portal, which producers, importers and brand owners use to meet their EPR obligations. Voluntary plastic credits also exist, issued under international standards for companies that want to go beyond compliance. In both cases a credit is only as good as the activity behind it: verified collection and recycling with full traceability. Lucro provides plastic credits backed by its own collection and recycling operations.
