PCR stands for post-consumer recycled. PCR resin is plastic made from products and packaging that have been used by consumers or businesses, discarded, collected and recycled, for example shampoo bottles, carry bags, milk pouches and woven sacks.
PCR is the form of recycled material that regulations and brand commitments focus on, because it takes real waste out of the environment. It differs from PIR, which comes from factory scrap that never reached a consumer. PCR is harder to produce: the waste is mixed and dirty, and has to be collected, sorted and washed before extrusion. Its value rests on traceability, proving that the material really is post-consumer. All of Lucro’s feedstock is post-consumer waste, recycled into PCR grades of rLDPE, rHDPE and rPP.
