CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board)

The CPCB, or Central Pollution Control Board, is India’s national pollution regulator. It was set up in 1974 and works under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, alongside the State Pollution Control Boards.

For plastics, the CPCB implements the Plastic Waste Management Rules. It operates the centralised EPR portal on which producers, importers and brand owners register and file their obligations, and on which plastic waste processors, including recyclers, register and generate EPR certificates for the quantities they process. A recycler’s CPCB registration is therefore one of the first things a brand should check.
