Recycled resin is polymer raw material made from plastic waste. In the plastics trade, resin simply means the base polymer in a form ready for processing, so recycled resin is another name for recycled granules or recyclate.
The most common recycled resins are rPET, rHDPE, rLDPE and rPP. Buyers specify them much as they would virgin resin: by polymer, grade, melt flow index, density, colour and application, with a technical data sheet and, for regulated or certified uses, proof of origin. PCR resin comes from consumer waste, and PIR resin from factory scrap. Recycled resin can be used at 100% or blended with virgin plastic to meet a target for performance or recycled content.
