Poly bags are bags made from plastic film, most often polyethylene (LDPE, LLDPE or HDPE) and sometimes polypropylene. The term covers carry bags, garment bags, courier and mailer bags, bin liners, produce bags and industrial liners.
They are made by extruding blown film and then cutting and sealing it into the required shape. Because a poly bag is usually a single polymer, it is recyclable where flexible plastic is collected, and it can also be made with recycled content. In India, plastic carry bags must be at least 120 microns thick under the Plastic Waste Management Rules, which makes them more reusable and more worthwhile to collect.
