Shrink wrap, or shrink film, is plastic film that shrinks tightly around whatever it covers when heat is applied. For secondary packaging it is usually LDPE-based polyethylene film made by blown film extrusion.
It is used to bundle bottles, cans and cartons into multipacks, known as collation shrink, and to secure whole pallets. The film is wrapped loosely around the products and passed through a heat tunnel, where it contracts into a firm, protective pack. Because shrink film is a single polymer and is removed at warehouses and stores, it is one of the easiest flexible packs to collect and recycle, and well suited to closed-loop recycling. It can also carry significant recycled content. Lucro makes shrink wrap containing post-consumer recycled rLDPE for FMCG and beverage brands.
